One More Easy Way To Help…Link your Harris Teeter VIC Card

It is back-to-school time and that means it is also time to RE-LINK your Harris Teeter VIC Card!  Harris Teeter’s Together In Education program will help raise funds for the Sassafras All Children’s Playground through the Frankie Lemmon Development Center! It’s easy and it’s FREE. Simply give the cashier code 2569, and your VIC card when you check out and your card will be linked for the entire school year. That’s it! You only have to link your VIC card once each school year. Once your card is linked, Sassafras All Children’s Playground will receive a percentage of your Harris Teeter brand (Harris Teeter, Premier Selection, H.T. Traders, Harris Teeter Naturals, Your Pet, Hunter Farms, Highland Crest and More Value) purchases credited back to our account.  This program does not interfere with your VIC savings or cost you any money!

Recap – Dick Hoyt at Koka Booth

Last month, Sassafras All Children’s Playground hosted an event at Koka Booth Amphitheater to help raise awareness for the playground. The evening as full of family activities including music from Crush, face painting, games, a silent auction, and plan layouts and presentations on the upcoming playground.

A highlight of the evening was inspirational speaker Dick Hoyt. Dick shared his “Yes You Can” message, which stems from his relationship with son, Rick, who was diagnosed as a spastic quadriplegic with cerebral palsy. Rick, who is unable to walk or traditionally speak, asked his father if he could participate in a five-mile benefit run at the age 10. Dick obliged, pushing Rick in his wheelchair the entire way, allowing Rick to not feel handicapped for the first time. Together, they trained and have since completed over 1,000 races including marathons, duathlons and triathlons.

The audience was captivated by Dick’s story, and the challenges he has overcome to help Rick achieve and accomplish goals. Dick’s message of “Yes You Can” helps support Sassafras’ theme of “Together We Can: Build a Lifetime of Memories.”

Playground Site Visits

equipmentA committee of playground enthusiasts joined together to go on a field trip across North Carolina to gather some ideas for my renovation. My friends traveled to Cary, Winston-Salem and several places in Charlotte to learn how build the bestest, most funest playspace for ALL CHILDREN! On their trip they saw some really cool stuff and are now working to see what can be brought into Laurel Hill’s Park. Can’t wait to see what they come with!
