Our Mission
At Sassafras All Children’s Playground, our Mission is to create a playground for children of all abilities by harnessing the cooperative energy, spirit and resources of the Triangle community.
Do-Overs
Back in the good ol’ days of 1991, some big-hearted people got together to build the Triangle’s first and only all children’s playground at Laurel Hills Park. What a great idea, right? The playground was designed so all kids could swing and slide and giggle and glide. It didn’t matter if you were in a wheelchair, had leg braces or gum in your hair, it was yours.
What was true then is still true today.
So now, some 20 years later, a new group of big-hearted people is coming together to reconstruct the playground and not only make it safe, but make it even more awesome than it was before. Experts are being consulted, similar playgrounds are being visited and ideas are being thrown around the table. It’s time to celebrate, as the new Sassafras All Children’s Playground starts to take root.

Hide & Seek
In 1991 the “All Children’s Playground” was constructed by community volunteers at Laurel Hills Park, conveniently located at the corner of Glen Eden Drive and Edwards Mill Road. Due to evolving codes and safety requirements, the park needs to be taken down.
This makes the existing playground site the perfect spot for a new and exciting playground where every detail takes into consideration children of all abilities. The re-construction offers a unique opportunity to communicate back to the public that the initial goal of providing a safe place for children of all abilities to play together remains a priority. In addition, building a playground on an existing City Park site, which has a facility for programming, will allow for integration of programs and on-site recreation.
